For my graduation I want to continue my research and project that I conducted during my minor. This is based on my fascination and affinity with memories and nostalgia I wanted to explore how this shows itself in my practice as an artist and designer in the tangible sense. I want to take this research further as its something that I think really defines my work and would love to see where it could go based on the steps I have already taken in the minor period.

My project for my minor was was for me to dive deeper into my fascination for nostalgia and memories.
I used a methodology that allowed me to express a memory into a tangible form using clay.

Through the vehicle of texture both sound wise and using clay I created sculptures based on the maritime district which was the area we had to focus on in Public and Private.
These memories were made in the district and even though it seemed so cold and proper there were certain observations and obscurities that I collected along the way by conducting two recorded walks.
Later I would listen back to my recordings and through clay visualise what I heard capturing the day and the memory forever in solid form.
Although these forms seem rather abstract they trigger my memory to the day that they represent and they will continue to do so every time I look at them. The textures I have created in the clay remind me of the feeling at the time or kind of surfaces I came across on my walk. This was the district through the eyes of my recollection.

In terms of my research I am going continue to work with a clay medium and develop upon my technical skills within that, whilst reading and finding more sources that discover and discuss nostalgia.
My intention is to solidify my practice as a designer and artist, to examine different avenues within my fascination and how one can turn an abstract concept into something tangible that resonates with others.
The minor sets the tone and the base from where I will continue my process, it already shows a development of a concept based on the notion of memories and nostalgia. My major can give me the tools and the way I position myself in how I approach my work I hope to merge this with more handcrafted techniques to communicate my concept, as the purpose of design is to communicate a topic.
I think it is quintessential that my direction involves a lot of experimentation, and reading and finding out more about the significance of nostalgia to others in this way I can make a correlation as to why this is important to me. By combining those things I want to see where this will go. I am not solid on an outcome yet, this way of working is based on how we worked within Public and Private and it allowed me to find new ways of to create a concept out of my work and to let more intuition lead the way.
Once I find a methodology from the beginning phase of my research I will narrow in on what it is I want to communicate and create for my graduation project.

For an external partner I would like to reach out to the EKWC residency in Oisterwijk as they work with clay there and recently also looked in sound and ceramics which is something I am interested in learning more about.
